What Day is Better than Christmas? Chocolate Cake Day Of Course…

Chocolate Cake Day

They say Christmas time is the most wonderful time of the year, but as we’re fighting off those January blues there couldn’t come a better day to celebrate…Chocolate Cake Day. Yes, January 27 marks National Chocolate Cake Day, as if there’s ever a reason needed to eat it.

It’s believed the chocolate cake was born in 1765, and while it doesn’t predate the humble game of bingo it did come to life before the likes of Napoleon, the arrival of British ships in Australia and the signing of the US constitution. It wasn’t until the mid-1800s that the first recipe arrived in publications though, Eliza Leslie became the first to publish hers in The Lady’s Receipt Book. Since then, chocolate cakes have been taken to an entirely new level, with all manner of weird and wonderful concoctions.

Of course, there’s no better way to celebrate Chocolate Cake Day than with a chocolate cake, so our team, who seem to be experts in chocolate as well as bingo and slots, have pulled together some of their favourite recipes so you can enjoy the day in true style…

The Easy To Make Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Cake Day

This easy to bake recipe comes from the BBC Good Food Guide and is the perfect place to start if you’re not exactly a whizz in the kitchen. It takes less than 30 minutes to prepare with only half an hour to an hour in bake time. It serves 12 and there are no fancy ingredients and no expert equipment required, you just need a handful of items you can find in any supermarket, a baking tin, and you’re good to go.

Nigella’s Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake

Nigella always likes to take things to the next level, and our team’s top choice was the Old-Fashioned Cake featured in her Feast book. It’s a little more complex than the recipe featured above but is the perfect cake for those who want something nut free and those who like something rich. The recipe makes for around eight slices and we don’t know about you, but we’d want them all for ourselves. You can find the recipe by clicking here or following the YouTube video with Nigella herself above.

Triple Chocolate Cake by Sally

One of the most popular recipes online comes from Sally’s Baking Addiction. Such was the popularity of this triple chocolate cake; she revisited the recipe and created this excellent tutorial to guide you through the entire baking process.

The cake is incredibly moist, and it is super rich for extreme indulgence. It has two layers coated in buttercream. Some of the ingredients include cocoa powder, espresso powder, chocolate, coffee, and water for a real intense flavour. Buttermilk is also required for that extra bit of moisture. If you’re looking for the ultimate chocolate cake, then look no further.
